VISION AND MISSION


Bombay Environmental Action Group (BEAG) was founded in 1979 by Shyam Chainani, Navroz Mody, Salim Ali, Kersi Naoroji, Saad Ali, S. K. Das, Kumar Advani and Farid Gulmohamed.


VISION

BEAG’s Vision was – and remains stronger than ever – to promote awareness of the degradation of the urban and natural environment; and to stimulate action for protection of the environment, to enhance the quality of life.


MISSION

BEAG aims to achieve this Vision :

  • by promoting enlightened public opinion regarding the environmental situation.
  • by conducting studies and research in the areas of urban planning, pollution, heritage conservation, protection of mangroves and forests, and endangered eco-sensitive areas.
  • through advocacy and proposing amendments to planning and environmental policy.
  • through engaging in well-documented, evidence based constructive public interest litigation.
  • by collaborating, coordinating activities or campaigning with groups having similar objectives.
  • by providing a discussion forum for all shades of reasoned opinion concerned with environmental protection and enhancement; without aligning with any political party; and maintaining high standards of integrity.
