About Ratnagiri
Ratnagiri is a part of the Konkan division of Maharashtra. It is also rich in cultural heritage and biodiversity, consisting of a long coastline with rocky shores, sandy beaches and mangrove areas. Apart from its biodiverse coastline, Ratnagiri also consists of rocky outcrop ecosystems which support various threatened flora and fauna.
BEAG in 2021, extended its work towards conservation and protection of Rocky Outcrops/ Plateaus from Satara to Ratnagiri. These plateaus are locally known as ‘Sada’ and are not well documented.
Since then BEAG has been striving to work with local community members, experts to document its cultural heritage and unique biodiversity. We also aim to work with Government authorities towards formulating a Conservation Management Plan.
