Quarrying in the Eco – Sensitive Zone of Yedshi Ramling Ghat Wildlife Sanctuary (2023)

BEAG received a complaint, in 2023, regarding illegal quarrying and stone crushing within the Eco Sensitive Zone of the Yedshi Ramling Ghat Wildlife Sanctuary located around 19 Km from the city of Dharashiv, Maharashtra. These activities were in complete violation of the provisions of the ESZ Notification.
After conducting a field visit, BEAG filed a complaint on 9th October, 2023 with the Collector, Dharashiv and an enquiry was conducted. Following this, hearings before the Additional District Collector, Dharashiv were held between December 2023 and 2024, where BEAG, the other concerned departments and the violators filed their submissions.
Subsequently, after considering all the submissions, the Additional District Collector, Dharashiv, on 29th January, 2024, concluded that the stone crusher and quarry was in fact within the Eco-sensitive Zone and in violation of the Yedshi Ramling Ghat Wildlife Sanctuary Notification of 31st May, 2017.
Based on the above conclusions, an Order was passed for the closure of all stone crushing units and quarries conducting operations within the ESZ of the Sanctuary.
