BEAG has significantly influenced the conservation of Mumbai’s environmental and cultural heritage.
Starting with the creation of a comprehensive heritage list for the Brihan-Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), BEAG’s efforts led to the inclusion of heritage conservation regulations in the city’s Development Plan.
In 1988, as part of the Urban Conservation Sub Committee, we advocated for and helped establish Mumbai’s first Municipal Heritage Committee in 1990, strengthening legal safeguards for historic buildings.
Beyond heritage, BEAG addresses pressing environmental concerns. Our recent Report on bakery emissions in Mumbai offers concrete steps for a transition to cleaner fuels, aiming to eliminate harmful pollutants.
Additionally, we have actively contributed to raise awareness about sustainable lake restoration in Thane City, leveraging Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) to promote environmental resilience.
